One Response to “Chess Checkmate (NME012). 1984.”

  1. I have been driving myself crazy trying to find and identify tracks from a Chess compilation cassette I had decades ago. It had some of these tracks on and some others, but it wasn’t this compilation. It started with a snatch of a Bo Diddley track – at least I think it was Bo – where he was singing “Hey Hey Hey Hey!” and the crowd/band were singing it back to him, then “Mama mama mama!” and again the crowd/band sang it back to him. Then immediately it segued into another track by someone else. Koko Taylor’s ‘Wang Dang Doodle’ was another track, as was Fontella Bass’s ‘Rescue Me’. Tony Clarke was on there too, but I think he was singing ‘The Entertainer’ rather that ‘Ain’t Love Good…’ Do you know that compilation? Failing that, do you recognise that opening excerpt?
